chadschulz on "Time to remove legacy code to speed up WordPress?"

Maybe it's time for a split?
I'm seeing a growing community of people willing to get down and dirty with code to improve and "perfect" the sites under their care who only want the latest, fastest, best. Along with all the "novice" plug and play users who simply build a site to last in perpetuity with little need for "big" updates and changes.
These are divergent communities that any ONE Wordpress is unlikely to please.
Where a lot of other open source projects advance their cause through two versions: a safe/standard version and a cutting edge/development version.
Allowing "new, improved" to co-exist with "old faithful". Give it a different designation other than Wordpress (WordImpress?) to limit confusion.
With REST API and other improvements about to change everything I can think of no reason not to advance forward thinking alongside stability.
Once the development advancements in Wordpress 2.0 are ironed out they can confidently be inserted into Wordpress 1.0 core.
Beta testing is only a stop-gap to small improvements, we need something bigger, bolder. Let the big-ideas, the big-thinkers have their own platform to shine without risking a reputation built over decades.
Just one "big thinker's" opinion. ;-)
